Bridgetown, Barbados - Andrew Flintoff will know on Friday if he will return home from England's tour of the Caribbean.
The 31-year-old England all-rounder has been sidelined for the fourth Test against West Indies at Kensington Oval with a hip injury.
"I think there will be some news," England captain Andrew Strauss told reporters on Thursday.
"Obviously, he is continuing his rehabilitation and I think there will be some news on him later."
Flintoff has a muscle strain in his right hip which he sustained in the drawn third Test at St John's last week.
The England medical team has been closely monitoring him over the last few days in the hope that he could be fit for the fifth and final Test in Trinidad and the limited-overs matches which follow.

Flintoff had an anxious start to the Test series after he suffered a left-side strain in the opening week of the tour.
The visitors summoned fast-medium bowler Amjad Khan and all-rounder Ravi Bopara from the England Lions' tour of New Zealand as cover for Flintoff.
Bopara made the 11 for the fourth Test, but Khan failed to make the final cut, despite taking five wickets in England's two-day, warm-up match against the Barbados Cricket Association President's XI over the past weekend.
