Stanton Fredericks takes up the receptionist's role at his club whenever he can. He is obsessed about whether the fax machine functions properly. And most importantly, if it is plugged in properly to receive international correspondence. Not that he could fix it, should it be malfunctioning.
The elusive fax the Pierikos midfielder always checks and hopes for on top of the incoming fax tray, is the one with Safa's letter head confirming a call-up for him.
"I will run and waste no time, my friend, if I should get a call-up," he says of his desire to return to the national team.

'in football you will never know what will happen in any minute'
After not being part of the national team set-up for the past four years, Fredericks admits his chances are slim but he remains his usual optimistic self.
"It has been a long time, but in football you will never know what will happen in any minute," he says.
Fredericks, you will remember, faded into obscurity soon after his return to the country after his two-year stay at Russia's FC Moscow.
Prior to his move to the land of vodka, he had established himself as one of the country's most reliable attackers.
At 31, the midfielder should be pondering his retirement and not a place in the national team, one may think.

But he is of the opinion that he still has what it takes to make it. Although he is not the Fredericks who combined with Shoes Moshoeu at Chiefs to win the league under Ted Dumitru in 2004, he still has flashes of brilliance in his legs.
Judging from what I saw in the 20 minutes he played against Erigotelis - a team in the Super League - in the Greek version of the Nedbank Cup nine days ago today, Fredericks can offer attacking options in any starting line-up.
As soon as he was stretched off after suffering a concussion, the Eldorado Park-born player's second division side suffered when it came to going forward in a game they won 4-3 on penalties.
