Golfing superstar Annika Sorenstam was in South Africa at the weekend to check on the progress being made at her course Euphoria outside Mookgophong (formerly Naboomspruit).
Construction of the 18-hole bushveld layout nestling right underneath the Waterberg range began in July and all the holes have been shaped with several of the fairways and greens already grassed and mowed.
This is the first female signature course in Africa and Sorenstam has been working in conjunction with designer Stanford Eby to create what they believe will be a world-class facility.
Wide, undulating fairways, elevated greens and strategically-placed bunkers are some of the main characteristics of the course.

"Playing a good round here will be all about correct placement of your shots as you carefully plot your way around the course," said Sorenstam.
"You'll need to have plenty of strategy. That's the way I've always played and that's why you're seeing my individual stamp on the course," added the Swede, who until last year was world No1 as she matched on the women's tour what Tiger Woods was doing on the men's.
There is also a magnificent practice facility. "I insisted on it," she said. "I probably practice more than anyone else in the game, and I said that if I'm going to put my name to a golf course, I want a state-of-the-art practice range."
The Euphoria Golf Estate and Hydro, 7km south of Mookgophong, will have over 700 homes when completed towards the middle of next year.
Facilities other than golf will include a golf lodge, a bushveld lodge, a spa, an equestrian centre, a sports centre, conference and function facilities, a business centre with boutique stores, a village green with a chapel surrounded by a macadamia nut orchard, and a cableway dramatically linking the clubhouse with the mountain that overlooks it.
