The South African Rugby Union on Thursday denied a report which stated that Stormers captain Luke Watson had bench-pressed 140kg during fitness tests at the Springbok training camp in Bloemfontein this week.

In a press statement, SA Rugby said that Watson had in fact bench-pressed 160kg.

"In an article published in the Independent Newspapers in South Africa on Thursday, it was incorrectly stated that Luke Watson had bench-pressed 140kg during a fitness test in Bloemfontein (on Wednesday). The correct figure was 160kg and not 140kg.

"Further, it is not the policy of the Springbok management to issue such personal player information to the media and the public as it is deemed to be confidential. We, however, decided to correct this particular report for the sake of accuracy," SA Rugby said.

Meanwhile, Springbok selection convenor Peter Jooste said that players outside the 46-man squad should not give up hope of making the SA World Cup squad.

Jooste was responding to reports that Bulls flyhalf Derick Hougaard may be added to the squad as the No 47 player.

Jooste denied that there was going to be a "No 47", but said: "We do have a shortlist of players that we think could come into the squad if we need them. We could call them up at any time. But we are not going to call up a 47th player."

The squad of about 30 players is due to be named after the Super 14 final between the Sharks and the Bulls in Durban. The squad will assemble in Bloemfontein on Monday ahead of the first Test against England next Saturday.
