The risk of further power interruptions in Benoni and Boksburg North still exists following the theft of cross members on the Eskom towers in the area, Eskom said on Monday.

Cross members are the wires that hold the towers together.

Spokesperson Chriska van der Merwe said Boksburg North experienced a power outage which lasted a few hours on Sunday.

"There is currently no power interruption to the affected areas as they are being supplied by other lines, however the risk is still there," she said.

Four new tower structures to replace the damaged ones were on their way to Benoni.

Van der Merwe said the repair work would "take some days" and the company wanted to finish repairs as soon as possible. - Sapa
