 'Stop biased portrayal of Ethiopia'

Windhoek - Ethiopia is not only about famine and death.

Officials from the north African country have complained that a movie starring Angelina Jolie currently being filmed in Namibia is biased.

Ethiopia lodged a complaint with Namibia's government over Beyond Borders, saying it portrayed the 1984 drought and starvation and none of the progress made since.

The film is a drama in which Jolie falls in love with a doctor who travels to Cambodia, Chechnya and Ethiopia to help war victims. Namibia was chosen for filming since its terrain is similar to Ethiopia's. Ethiopia was at war with Eritrea when filming was being planned.

Tegenaw Goshu, speaking for the Ethiopian embassy, said the producers had not been willing to work with organisations in Ethiopia that could have helped put the story in context.

"The media should strive to include positive image of our continent," he said.

There was no immediate reaction from Namibia's government. - Sapa-AP
