Durban – In the latest in a string of armed robberies at cellphone and jewellery shops across Durban, a jewellery shop at the Pearls Mall in Umhlanga was robbed today.

KZN SAPS spokesman Lt Col Thulani Zwane said: “Today at about 11.30am, two suspects allegedly accosted employees at a jewellery shop and robbed them of jewellery at gunpoint.”

The suspects made a getaway and no injuries were sustained.

“A case of business robbery was opened at Durban North police station for investigation,” he said.

This was not the first time the mall was robbed. Earlier this month, a jewellery store in The Pearls was also targeted and jewellery and other items were stolen.

Just yesterday, the Cash Crusaders shop in the Atrium (formerly Overport City) shopping centre was hit, with robbers making off with car radios, tablets and chargers.

Last night a gang of armed robbers smashed their way into a shop in the Southway Mall in Seaview and fled with goods valued at tens of thousands of rands, a private security company said.
