Durban - Durban’s golden girl, Tanit Phoenix, has made the ultimate career move – relocating to Los Angeles with her boyfriend.

While she feels “right at home” in the world’s entertainment hub, the model and actress has not forsaken her Durban roots.

Phoenix, 28, one of the leading ladies in the newly released Spud 2: The Madness Continues movie, said she made the move to LA late last year with her actor, director and producer boyfriend, Sharlto Copley.

“We have bought a house in LA,” she said this week.

“I love it here, I feel right at home. But we travel back as often as we can to visit our families. And yes, Durban is on my list for Christmas this year.”

While there are “no wedding bells just as yet” between her and Pretoria-born Copley, 39 – who is best known for playing the roles of Wikus van der Merwe in the Oscar-nominated District 9 and Howling Mad Murdock in the 2010 adaptation of The A-Team – Phoenix said the two are very happy.

After filming Spud and Death Race: Inferno – which came out a few weeks ago – Phoenix said she took time off.

“I have been travelling with my boyfriend all over the world while he worked on his films. It’s been an amazing time for me, meeting incredible people.”

It is, however, back to business for the Durban beauty who has already appeared in several TV commercials in LA. “I love Los Angeles, I joke sometimes about how much more suited I am to the American market,” she said.

When asked about the competitive nature of the industry, Phoenix said she did not notice the competition. “There is so much work going on all the time, a lot of opportunity for people with talent,” she said.

On her role as the sexy drama teacher Mrs Eve Wilson in the Spud movie and working with renowned actor John Cleese, Phoenix said: “John Cleese has always been one of my favourite comic geniuses.”
