As a child we played a communication game where we were asked to stand in a long row.
The person at the head then whispers an expression to the person next in line.
The message is then whispered along the line until the one at the end is asked to state loudly what he or she heard.
Invariably the message was corrupted along the way, often hilariously.
As a child I thought that the message was deliberately corrupted by at least one of the participants, but this is not necessarily the truth.
Every person in line hears and interprets the message according to physical filters and mortal limitations. Be careful what we hear at the end of the line. – Louis Groenewald
