It is a romantic and popular belief that the mind has limitless potential and that by allowing it to be free, creative thoughts come about and result in progress.
I agree wholeheartedly with this opinion, but there are exceptions.
If the mind is uncontrolled and just runs without any control, the end results will be catastrophic.
It will be like a beautiful powerful sports car with a drunk man at the steering wheel.
The mind’s real potential lies in focus and control.
Occasionally we allow it to expand into free thought and be creative – but, for most of the time, the mind needs discipline.
Have you ever been worried about something and then watched your mind run amok?
Soon you will be filled with anxiety and in a state of no control.
Another example is to “watch” your mind hop from one thought to another. You start off thinking about one thing and soon thousands of thoughts have passed by.
The focus and control of the mind is not the easiest thing to do.
It is almost as if the mind has a mind of its own.
A well-trained mind has limitless potential to serve us and help us to be truly great people.
The big question is: how do we train the powerful, grey organ between our ears to be disciplined and powerful?
There are really quite a few ways. I want to focus on one specific one with you.
l Allow yourself 15 to 30 minutes of quality alone-time.
l Relax fully and become as calm as you possibly can.
l When a thought enters your mind, acknowledge it and then let it go.
l Keep on doing this. Every time a thought enters your mind, acknowledge it and then let it go.
l You will soon see the period between thoughts become longer and longer. You then know that you are really making progress.
l Don’t overdo it. When you start, spend 10 to15 minutes on it.
This is an excellent way to teach the mind some discipline.
What is more, it is guaranteed to relax and de-stress you.
Seeing as we cannot put the mind in a straitjacket, this is a good start.
