Could drinking milk give you bad skin?

London - Sugar, milk and ice-cream may increase the risk of developing acne.

When dermatologists from the University Hospital of Kuala Lumpur compared the diet of 44 acne sufferers and 44 people with clear skin, they found consuming milk more than once a week raised the risk of acne, while eating ice cream more than once a week quadrupled the risk.

A high-sugar diet was also found to be a factor. Researchers observed that women with acne had a greater daily calorie intake, too - 1,812 compared with 1,590. No significant difference was found when they compared other nutrient intakes.

More work is needed to confirm the link, but one theory is that high amounts of sugar and dairy proteins increase the concentration of a growth hormone called IGF-1, which may encourage the sebaceous glands in the skin to produce more oil. - Daily Mail
