London - This is the heartwarming moment a young baby smiled in delight after seeing his mother clearly for the first time.
Leopold Reppond suffers with a rare disorder called oculocutaneous albinism, which means he has been unable to focus properly.
In the home video Leopold has a pair of specially-made baby glasses gently placed onto his head by his mother Erin.
After a brief moment of confusion, he looks up at his mother who says: “Hi honey.” He makes eye-contact with her, then immediately starts to beam. The baby’s 35-year-old mother, from Seattle in the US, readjusts the glasses, before staring into her son’s eyes.
undefinedAfter his eyes adjust to what must be a very strange sensation, the video ends with him focusing on his mother and grinning with delight before beginning to chuckle.
Speaking about his four-month-old son’s new-found vision, his father David Reppond, 39, said: “He’s seeing the world differently now. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.”
Oculocutaneous albinism, which affects one in 20 000 children means the pigment is missing from irises. This can lead to a number of conditions - including impaired vision and sensitivity to light.
