There's a new sub-culture taking over the fashion world, but you’re only invited if you’re a chic mama or papa.

From designer nappies to trendy branded clothing, new parents are going big when it comes to personalised baby items. And it seems only the best will do when it comes to giving their little ones the finest things money can buy.

Gone are the days when a simple receiving blanket with baby’s initials embroidered on it would suffice. Blame it on the social media age and mommy blogs, where the need to compete for designer baby of the year has reached epic proportions.

Facebook page Fashion Baby Chic is a collection of posts and photos of babies wearing matching outfits and designer nappies, sparking a major cuteness alert.

But it doesn’t end there. Parents are going as far as buying personalised lunchboxes and smoothie cups, complete with little Sipho’s name on it.

When it comes to clothing, those who can afford it are having designer duds made in little people's sizes as well. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Coco Austin are dressing their mini-mes in exact replicas of their outfits, and the rest of the world is following suit.

And designer retailers seem to be taking note. Big names like Zara and H&M launched baby and kiddie clothing lines with massive success. One online store based in Poland stocks designer garb from Gap clothing to Next, all catering for the baby market.

When it comes to drinks, baby, we have you covered. What about a babyccino? When the frothy drink started taking off across the US in 2012, Eater blog called it the “latest threat to US children”. The drink does not contain coffee, but a shot of decaf espresso served with steamed milk or foam.

One website, www.personalcreations.com, tugs at new parents’ heartstrings with newborn keepsakes, stocking everything from baby photo block cushions to personalised pewter plates.

There’s a huge market out there for parents and tots, and retailers are happy to oblige. But whatever you do, please don’t order a babyccino on your next outing with your child.
