Durban - Eleven junior and senior primary schools within the Brighton Beach policing area are participating in an anti-bullying campaign organised by local police.
More than 4 000 Grade R-Grade 7 pupils are being taught how to report bullying to a teacher or playground monitor so action can be taken to curb bullying. This can prevent an argument or fight from escalating.
Captain Louise le Roux, Brighton Beach SAPS spokeswoman, said children, especially those who have been victims of bullying, were being encouraged to believe in themselves and their capabilities.
“Although children do apologise to one another, the victim is left with emotional scars,” she said.
But it was not only schoolyard bullying that was a problem, said Le Roux, “it was concerning to see how many children indicated that they are victims of home bullying”.
More than 500 teachers have received a booklet researched and compiled by Le Roux on how to incorporate additional bullying prevention goals within their schools.
Parents would receive a brochure on school bullying, said Le Roux. - Daily News
