London - Watching your child perform in the annual nativity play is one of those precious parenting moments.

Yet one in ten fathers have admitted they would only attend if their little one was playing Mary or Joseph.

Since the school plays are often held during working hours, 11 percent of dads surveyed said they just can’t justify taking the time off unless their child has a starring role.

One father polled went as far as to say: “I attended my child’s first nativity and that was enough, when you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all really.”

While another said he can’t afford to lose a half day’s work to see his child “play shepherd No.4 or the back end of a donkey”.

But moms will be relieved to know that 89 percent of fathers polled said they would want to go to the nativity regardless of what role their child was given.

That may not always be possible though, as 83 percent of working fathers said they found it difficult to persuade their boss to give them the time off, while just 16 percent said they attended the nativity every year.

A spokesman for Officebroker.com, which conducted the poll, said: “Christmas, and the weeks running up to it, is an extremely hectic time for parents and sometimes they have to be economical with their time.

“It’s understandable why so many dads struggle to make nativities.” - Daily Mail
