Ingredients: Pisco, lime juice, sugar and a little egg white

For a rare taste of things Peruvian, head over to the trendy Pisco Bar on Waterkant Street.

The Pisco Sour uses a little egg white for foam. I simply love a little egg white with liquor, it gives a drink a slight, appreciated tang.

De la Melena says the drink is a welcoming one in Peru, often had before dinner at functions.

Pisco Bar has a balcony overlooking a paved portion of Waterkant Street and is above the only Peruvian restaurant I know in Cape Town.

The Pisco liqueur is made from grapes and is considered a brandy.

Try some of the other Pisco cocktails when you visit, such as the Pisco Punch and the Cholopolitan which is a cosmo with Pisco in place of vodka.

Pisco Bar is open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 5pm onwards. Keenwa restaurant is open for lunch daily during the week and for supper Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Happy hour at the bar is on Wednesdays to Fridays from 5pm to 7pm; the special gives you free tapas with your drink. - Weekend Argus
