Usher in spring with a bang ... with this mix. The Kiwi Mint Mule at the estreet Bar packs a mean punch of tequila shaken in rum. A few sips left me mellow for the rest of the afternoon.
Barman Michael Summers shakes Spiced Gold rum, silver tequila, kiwi extracts, pineapple juice, two squeezed lime wedges, eight bruised mint leaves and ice.
This is strained into a hurricane glass and topped with ginger ale and three dashes of bitters.
Being the “poison” that it is, the single shot of tequila whacked me. My colleague says the drink left him with a “want-more” aftertaste.
The drink as a whole was full-bodied.
The bar is smart, has a marble counter, upholstered chairs, chandeliers and a few tables. It is located in the mini-village of the Upper Eastside complex in Salt River which is also home to a hotel and residential blocks.
If you lived there, you could comfortably wake up at 10.30am to start your day with a cocktail at estreet Bar, if that’s your thing.
It closes at 12.30am Mondays to Saturdays and 11pm on Sundays.
And ... there is a cigar lounge for smokers.
Tuesday evenings are cocktail nights with drinks set at half price. – Weekend Argus
