Cocktail: Lady Marmalade Jam Jar

Ingredients: Cachaca, Cointreau, triple sec, orange juice, apricot jam, sparkling wine, orange zest, lime zest and grapefruit zest.

I like big drinks and the idea that I can get a taste of a fun drink in a classic jam jar is irresistible.

And a two-for-the-price-of-one deal during the Bombay Bicycle Club’s daily happy hour just sweetens the deal.

The Lady Marmalade Jar and its creator, Charlene Schnelle, are one of three winners of the Madame Zingara’s Summer Cointreauversy competition, which challenged the group’s barmen to create the ultimate summer using the bittersweet flavours of Cointreau.

Schnelle’s creation is now one of three at all Zingara’s Cape Town locations.

Schnelle uses natural ingredients as much as possible, giving sugar syrups a miss.

She describes it as a Brazilian drink, because it includes Cachaca.

It’s fizzy, fresh and filling.

Pop over to Bombay Bicycle club and ring the bell to kiss a barman. I am assured it really does happen.

There are a lot of mismatched trinkets in the bar, making it feel like a store room for forgotten ornaments. I even spotted a doily at the bar.

Happy hours are from 4pm to 6pm and from 10pm to midnight. - Weekend Argus
