London - Coffee addicts across the country set aside time each morning to brew a perfect cup. But Yorkshire’s Dom Dwight took the quest further - travelling the world for a year in a bid to master the art.

He concluded that the best beans came from the Nyeri region of Kenya. But he didn’t just take them home. Instead, he headed for a 3 842m peak in the French Alps.

Dwight, an employee of Taylors of Harrogate tea rooms, claims roasting the beans at high altitude improves their flavour.

After brewing with water from springs in Lapland, a splash of milk was added from “the happiest cows in Britain”:a Hare-Krishna-blessed herd bequeathed by the late Beatle George Harrison.

But, after all that, was it really the best cup in the world? Critics called it “rich and intense” with an “oddly comforting flavour”, while Harrogate locals rated it “not bad” and “inoffensive”. That’s quite a slog for a cup of “not bad” coffee. - Daily Mail
