The chocolate teapot with two uses

London - An age-old wisdom has been over-turned — by an edible teapot.

The sarcastic phrase “about as useful as a chocolate teapot” has long signified that something is of no practical use.

Now a dark chocolate teapot is on sale which is apparently strong enough to be filled with hot water and cocoa powder to make — and pour — a delicious hot, chocolatey drink.

Alternatively, you could add more hot water to create a “retro” chocolate fondue in which to dip fruit and marshmallows.

When you’ve finished (the 600g teapot will, eventually, melt), simply break up the vessel and eat its fragments.

It’s fair to say the £24.99 (about R500) novelty teapot has a limited use. But as a spokesperson for retailer Firebox.com said: “It’s more useful than an ashtray on a motorbike, a waterproof teabag, a glass hammer or mudflaps on a tortoise.”

It is not known if retailers plan to experiment with the similarly apocryphal chocolate fireguard.
