Pretoria - Richard Sherman tweeted a picture of the ingredients list of Pick n Pay’s own-brand “beef burgers”, which reveals that they’re actually more chicken than beef – 33 percent mechanically deboned chicken and 27 percent beef.

Pick n Pay’s general manager of corporate foods, Cindy Jenks, told Consumer Watch the company was “in the process of reformulating the product”, but the label in question was in accordance with the labelling legislation.

By that, she means that the percentage of beef is revealed on the pack.

Jenks said the reformulated product would also contain chicken, but didn’t say how much.

Yet another example of why it’s important to read the small print along with the big. - Pretoria News
