CNN canvased the opinions of the food experts who are on the panel which selects the World's 50 Best Restaurants and they just couldn’t ignore Bread & Vines and neither should you.

In the synopsis of why it was selected as a hidden gem on the outskirts of Cape Town CNN Travel quotes food writer Tamsin Snyman on Bread & Vines staying power on the food scene: “Eighteen years of masterful cuisine has been carved here into the fabric of Franschhoek's culinary scene, courtesy of Neil Jewell, who cut his teeth in the kitchens of Stephen Bull, Richard Corrigan and Ray Neve before he began his journey at Bread & Wines.”

Tina says that she and her hubby are delighted with the accolade and it came as a “pleasant surprise”

“Underrated is a description that fits us to the tee. We just love it. We’re actually closing for our winter break and when we return we usually wipe the slate clean and the chef comes back energised with new ideas for the menu,” she adds.

It’s their seasonal menu and charcuterie that is what makes them so unique.

From the description on the restaurant’s website Neil describes his passion for charcuterie perfectly: “It’s honest and uncluttered,” says Neil about the charcuterie range. “Every product has its own personality, but it’s always about the quality of the meat.”

He adds that: “The product range includes; bacon, salami, saucisson sec, mortadella as well as Neil’s unique hams, including Walter Ham, Linda Ham and Spanish dry cured ham - and, so much more.”

Although you have to reserve your seat at the restaurant, the Miss Molly Charcuterie Bar is situated on the family wine estate, Môreson and is happy to welcome you walk-in visitors.

If you do check out this “underrated”gem be sure to taste the range of breads they make as well, it might sound peculiar but the beetroot bread is also a hidden gem on the menu.
