And now Nigella Lawson has stood up for cooks who simply “potter” in the kitchen – saying they can be more “creative” than professional chefs.
The 56-year-old said: “Everyone talks as though the life of a professional chef is artistic and creative and the life of a home cook is drudgery, but it is the other way round.”
She told News Corp Australia – where she has been working on the country’s version of MasterChef – that once a career chef becomes successful, “all they are doing is recreating their dishes”.
“Whereas at home, you can do whatever you want. You open your fridge, see what you’ve got, and be as creative as you like. There’s freedom,” the mother of two said.
Lawson has long prided herself on being a domestic cook, and has described her food style as “informal”.
