London - French farmers are feeding cattle up to two bottles of high quality wine every day in an attempt to produce the best beef in Europe.

The resulting “Vinbovin” meat label is already proving a huge success.

It was developed after an experiment in which three cows in Lunel-Viel, in the southern Herault region of France, were described as “happy” after being fed wine for four months.

Laurent Pourcel, a Michelin-starred chef, is among those enthused by the “luxury meat”.

He said: “It has a very special texture - beautiful, marbled and tender.” But feed costs have tripled, making the beef even more exclusive. - Daily Mail
