When inviting guests or simply having a special family meal, it's all about having fun and presenting the full package in a way that honours your personality.

Whether you go all out or simply bring those creative genes out to play, it doesn’t have to be an extravagant event and should be done with things you have in hand, not buy especially for the occasion unless you are still collecting.

It's about colour choices, going with the best or the fun stuff, or even mixing for special effect, making some flashy servietttes or investing in a beautiful white linen set that will last forever.

The food in the end is the thing that will pull it all through but it is that sense of occasion, the time you have spent to turn a table into an event - even if just for two or the family - that will add to the meal.

It does matter what it looks like, they always say about food, but in the end it is the taste. So that's where the real time and effort should go. The presentation is all about imagination and seeing what you can come up with as you wander through the home.

From the garden where inspiration is often abundant to the kitchen or if you're stumped, checking the ideas of others like in this book, you will soon pick up the tricks of the trade and the way it can colour the festivities.

These two authors hope to make things easier by showing how to go about being creative at the table. It's a bit like dressing if you see clothes as part of your personality in a light-hearted fashion.

You simply have to begin with an idea and start adding on as the picture on the table starts emerging.

The idea is to enjoy the occasion and to be smart about how you add some spark to any occasion.
