London - Nutritionist Amanda Hamilton explains how to manage your mood — with food.
Food scientists have shown that chicken — hot or cold — has two key mood-boosting amino acids. The first is phenylalanine, an amino acid which the brain converts to dopamine. This chemical elevates mood and motivation, prevents depression, and is even thought to work as an antidepressant.
The second is tryptophan — the amino acid that triggers serotonin in our brain. Serotonin helps you to feel relaxed, reduces feelings of pain and aids sleep.
