Capetonians have spoken by voting for their top 10 favourite eateries.
The voting was for the Alto Top 100 Places to Eat Cape Town 2012 Awards.
Mariette Du Toit-Helmbold, Chief Executive Officer, Cape Town Tourism, is quoted in a press release as saying: “What a fabulous Top 10 list for locals and tourists alike. These awards are unusual in that they are the first ones to be run on Social Media where the public have had their say. It's reassuring to see that Capetonians enjoy their casual eateries as much as their fine dining and the results reflect this with the rising popularity of bistro-style eating. This in turn reflects international trends in eating out. It's also a very useful and handy list for locals and tourists visiting the Mother City.”
This year’s Top 100 Places to Eat Cape Town 2012 Awards is sponsored by leading wine producer and the oldest red wine estate in South Africa, Alto, to give support for the growth and development of Cape Town’s wine and food culture.
Says Gwen Job, Brand Manager of Alto Wines: “This is extraordinary because the finalists are all so diverse. Us Capetonians like to mix and match our places to eat and we are certainly spoilt for choice. There is an unspoken pride in all our restaurants in that they put so much effort into the customer experience, and this is the common thread in the finalists.”
Concludes Clare Mack, editor of Spill.co.za and founder of the awards, now in their second year; “We had a fantastic response from the public and there's no doubt about it; the ALTO Top 10 Places to Eat Cape Town are all fabulous places to eat, delivering different experiences, and that's what dining out is all about.
Cape Town, when it comes to food, is phenomenal.”
