Cape Town - Home-grown celebrity chef Siba Mtongana’s show Siba’s Table has broken into the US market and is set to reach an audience of 60 million there.

Mtongana will be one of the first South African chefs with a series in the US. It will start airing on Saturday morning on the Cooking Channel and includes 10 30-minute episodes.

“I am ecstatic about this wonderful news and really honoured to join the Cooking Channel. This is great news for me, but more so for my beloved country, as it will once again place the rainbow nation on the map,” she says.

Siba’s Table was filmed in Cape Town and premiered in South Africa on Food Network last September, and later aired throughout Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the UK.

In Siba’s Table, Mtongana creates and serves a range of dishes for friends and family. Each episode recreates a chapter of her Cape Town life, as she draws on childhood influences and her experience as a food editor. Her debut show Cooking with Siba aired on the Mzansi Magic channel.

With a degree in food and consumer sciences, Mtongana specialises in recipe development, food writing and styling, and has won three Galliova awards for food journalism and involvement in the South African food arena.

It is Scripps Networks’ first project outside of the US. - Cape Argus
