Several studies suggest a daily serving of pomegranate juice could help boost men’s flagging sex lives. At the University of California, 53 men with impotence had 220 ml of pomegranate juice with their dinner.
After a month, they swapped to a different fruit juice for four weeks. Nearly half had improvements in erectile function after drinking the pomegranate. It’s thought to be rich in antioxidants that boost blood supply by raising levels of nitric oxide, a chemical that relaxes blood vessel walls similar to how drugs such as Viagra work.
Research published in the journal Andrologia found that the corpus cavernosum, the sponge-like tissue inside the penis that expands during an erection contains tiny blood vessels that dilate when exposed to pomegranate juice, increasing blood flow.
