JVB Furniture has unveiled its new Pink Label Collection, a design collaboration with interior designer Nthabi Taukobong which she describes as “very sexy, stylish and beautifully made with exceptional quality and attention to detail”.
Taukobong has previously worked with JVB, which has its furniture collections divided into “country” and “town” styles.
“For this collection, we felt we wanted to spice it up with a very modern addition to the existing collections,” she said.
“The place we headed to is ‘the city’, and not just any city but the city of Joburg, where it’s all happening at the moment.”
Why call the inaugural range the Penthouse Collection? “We decided that if we were going to move to the city, we might as well move to the top floor. Go big or go home!”
She added: “Our entire design philosophy is based on the Thursday night ‘after work’ drinks concept (and the fabulous weekend that usually follows).
“The pieces in the collection are named after cocktails and all the upholstered elements in the range are done in synthetic leathers as our thinking was, with drinks flowing and the exuberance of good times, things might get a little messy, and we don’t want our clients to be worrying about spills in the middle of a fabulous evening.”
And who is it aimed at?
“Our initial concept boards were filled with images of fabulous young achievers living in the now. They drive hot cars, wear stylish clothes and meet for drinks every Thursday night. Pink Label is a cutting-edge collection that caters for people who are fierce, fabulous and feisty in everything they do. We have a very strong feeling they live in these amazing spaces just as current, on-trend and cosmopolitan as their lifestyles.”
Taukobong said her favourite piece was the Cosmo Chrome Chair – “just too sexy for words. I want to live the ‘lifestyle’ of that chair!”
The collection, she added, was finished with stunning “pop art”-styled art words. - The Star
