London - When it comes to choosing a partner for life, you need look no further than their first name.

For it seems women called Katie, Sophie and Louise make the best wives. And their ideal husbands are named David, Andrew and Daniel, according to a UK study of 2 000 adults.

Far from being open-minded when it comes to Christian names, adults associate them with very different sets of values.

So women who are most likely to be kind, caring, and good partners are called Sarah and Emily, says the research.

But even they cannot compete with Charlottes and Elizabeths who are seen as particularly desirable – in the eyes of the survey’s male respondents, that is. However, thousands of Emmas and Gemmas may not be so pleased to see the list because they are notably absent.

Grace garners few favours from the poll and neither do Ellie and Nicole who also fail to make the top ten.

Other names women should keep an eye out for are William, Simon and James – all, apparently, proving a good catch.

Mark, Rob and Pete narrowly missed out on the list of the top 10 most reliable names for husbands.

“Whether it’s through celebrities or people we already know, there’s a lot of power in a name and they are something everyone has an opinion on,” said a spokesman for Siteopia.com, which commissioned the research.

“Every time we hear mention of a name we naturally associate particular values or impressions based on our past experiences.

“Of course, people shouldn’t be judged on a name alone, so while men like David and Andrew seem to be top of the pile, they’ve still got to uphold that reputation day to day.”

“If starting a business or website, the same consideration should always go towards choosing the name.

“It could be the difference between success and failure.”
