London - Ginseng could be used as an alternative to Viagra to help tackle impotence, according to scientists.

A study found improvement in men who took the herb for just a few weeks.

Ginseng has been used for thousands of years in the Far East to boost overall health. While previous studies suggested it can help impotence, many were conducted only on mice.

But the latest study, at Yonsei University College of Medicine in South Korea, involved more than 100 men and found that those with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction saw a small but significant improvement after taking Korean ginseng berry four times a day for eight weeks.

The experts told the International Journal of Impotence Research: “Korean ginseng berry improved all domains of sexual function.

“It can be used as an alternative to medicine to improve sexual life in men.”

Current treatments include drugs such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. - Daily Mail
