London - Ever since they came face to face on a film set forty years ago, Prince Charles’s friendship with Barbra Streisand has been well documented.

But there are now claims that his affection for the star went beyond admiration for her films.

According to a new book, the heir to the throne had a decades-long “infatuation” with the Oscar-winning actress, and became so close to her that Princess Diana confided in her friend Lady Elsa Bowker that she “would not have been surprised if they had an affair”.

In the book, Game Of Crowns, which lifts the lid on the royal family, author Christopher Andersen claims that the Prince, 67, remarked to his valet: “Streisand is my only pinup”.

The pair first met in 1974, when Charles was just 26, when they shared a coffee and a 20-minute chat on the set of her film Funny Girl.

Married Miss Streisand, 73, once joked if she had been nicer to him during their meetings she “could have been the first real Jewish princess”.

British author Harold Brooks-Baker also claims they had a “secret rendezvous” two years after Charles separated from Princess Diana.
