London - Male jurors are harsher on fat women when they see them in the dock and are more likely to find them guilty, a study has revealed.
Researchers have found that when faced with an obese female defendant, a man would convict her more often than if she were thin.
Men tended to perceive a woman who was overweight as lazy and of poor character, but they did not exhibit the same bias when an obese man appeared before them.
Lynn Grefe, of the US National Eating Disorders Association, said of the Yale University study: “It’s one more nail in the coffin of how painful it is for people who are of larger sizes.” - Daily Mail
