Cannes - The daylight may have been fading at the Cannes Film Festival, but Charlize Theron was a ray of sunshine on the red carpet on Thursday night – standing out in a bright yellow dress.
The South African-born actress had opted for a dark fringed dress earlier in the day, but as the sun set she amped up her outfit – changing into the dazzling fishtailed gown for the premiere of her new film Mad Max: Fury Road.
The 39-year-old accessorised with simple diamond earrings, two glittering rings and her 54-year-old partner Sean Penn, who proudly accompanied his girlfriend as she posed for photographers.
Theron wore her hair in an elegant bun and kept her make-up neutral with a simple nude lip, letting her bright dress do all the talking.
Her latest action blockbuster sees her star alongside Tom Hardy, who plays the main character Max.
Mel Gibson, 59, who played Max in the original 1979 film, watched the reboot sitting next to the movie’s director George Miller – who revealed that halfway through the actor “started chuckling at the movie, and started digging me in the ribs”.
Penn, who has been married twice before – to Madonna and House of Cards star Robin Wright – has been publicly dating Theron for just over a year. He has two children from his second marriage.
Theron adopted a son, Jackson, in 2012.
