London - If your onion is more cheerful than your dances, there could be a good reason why. Sound like nonsense? Look at your keyboard and all will become clear.

University College London scientists have discovered that, because it is easier to type words with our right hand, they make us happier than the words we tap out with our left.

So typing “sad” really could bring you down, but “jolly” perks us up.

“Money” is more bearable than “taxes”, and “pink” is better than “red”.

The reason is that the layout of a keyboard has 15 letters for your left hand and 11 for your right. Decades of using keyboards has rewired our brains to prefer the easiest option, hence the bias to the right.

Left-handers have no need to feel slighted, either, because it applies to them, too. - Daily Mail
