London - There was a time when men were left to wonder what on earth women kept in their handbags.

But now, it seems, the tables have turned, with 55 per cent of British chaps carrying a ‘manbag’ – and filling it with contents worth an average of £880.27.

According to a poll, the item you’re most likely to find stashed inside a manbag is a wallet. Smartphones are in second place, closely followed by other gadgets such as tablet computers, laptops and digital cameras.

Headphones, glasses, aftershave, chewing gum, umbrellas and diaries also feature in the top ten, according to the survey of 2,000 men by discount website Vouchercodes.co.uk.

But perhaps more surprisingly, one in ten will also pack a spare pair of pants – and 9 per cent take a toothbrush.

Still, despite cramming so much in, the men still have some way to go before they catch up with the women in the cost stakes. A separate survey last year found the contents of the average woman’s handbag add up to £1,209.99. - Daily Mail
