Uma Thurman has explained her daughter’s unusual name.

The 'Bel Ami' actress - who gave birth to her third child on July 15 – and her financier boyfriend, Arpad Busson, 49, named the their daughter Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson, and Uma says it was her 14-year-old daughter Maya who convinced her to go with the unusual moniker.

Speaking about the baby – who is known as Luna – she told chat show host Jimmy Fallon: "[Maya] came up with the best excuse, [which] was that I probably wouldn't get to have any more children, so I just put every name I liked into Luna's.

"[Arpad and I] couldn't quite agree on the name. We call her Luna, so she's lucky that way.

"And then the rest, she can name all her own children all these interesting names. Proud, Catholic, observant!"

Uma already has Maya and son Levon, 10, from her previous marriage to Ethan Hawke while Arpad has two children, Arpad Flynn Alexander Busson and Aurelius Cy Andrea Busson from a previous relationship with supermodel Elle Macpherson.

Uma and Arpad first got together in 2007 but later split in November 2009. They reconciled last year and the actress recently gushed that she has finally found a "happy" place.

She said: "I have something I would really like to express about my love life. I'm happier with it now than I've been in many, many years. Yes I'm trying to have as peaceful a personal life as possible."
