Just as the holiday glow starts wearing off, you realise that another year has come and gone. It’s time to take stock of what is important in life with resolutions made, only to be broken a few days later. To usher in the New Year, we asked local celebs about their 2017 resolutions. Here’s what they had to say.

TV presenter Katlego Maboe

The host of SABC3’s breakfast show Expresso plans to honour the greatest lesson for 2016 – happiness is a choice to make every day.

“So many people are dependable on external influences like social media, relationships, families and friends for their happiness.”

He believes that happiness should only come from oneself.

And as far as his 2016 resolution went? Did he manage to stick to it?

“My 2016 resolution was a new life solution, not New Year’s resolution.”

It seems that his mantra for 2016 paid off as he lists winning SA’s best presenter for a second year in a row and hosting E! Entertainment’s Live from the red carpet at the Samas as his career highs for 2016.

Actress, TV presenter and model Sashi Naidoo

“I haven’t given it a lot of thought. I think this year I’ll be kinder to myself – that’s the most important resolution. I want to make the best decisions for myself, and be more thoughtful.”

Sashi recently opened the Laser Beautique in Menlyn, Pretoria, and lists the success of the business as her high for 2016.

“It’s been a huge dream for 10years,” she adds.

Model Tarryn Angela Trollip

“My resolution for 2017 is to continue striving to live a healthier lifestyle, (exercise, healthy foods and body love).”

Her aim for the new year is to establish a modelling career in Cape Town and to start graphic design again.

When it came to 2016, Tarryn put her graphic design on hold to focus on modelling and dancing.

But the year also came with its lows.

“In the industry it’s expected to receive lots of rejection, so I’d say that would be the low.

“On the high, I have been lucky enough to land a few good jobs, and recently joined an agency.

“I’m looking forward to an exciting 2017 with many opportunities. Lets do this.”

Lifestyle blogger and YouTuber Theodora Lee

Theodora plans to “get out more and try new recreational activities like bouldering and maybe even a salsa class”.

And as far as her 2016 resolution went?

“I wanted to worry less about how many hours of sleep I got. I know, it’s a weird one. I hate being tired. I’m getting better, but I still need to work on it!”

As far as her career highs and lows went for the year, she’s learnt that if you remain positive, life is full of exciting surprises.

“Quitting my day job for my own business was a high, but has also had its challenges. Working from home is a whole different dynamic. I hope to ace it in 2017.”

Comedian Stuart Taylor

The Cape Town-based comedian and TV presenter is “going to remember to forget the negativity and focus on what an amazing life I have” for 2017.

In 2016, Taylor resolved to travel more, and the question is: did he stick to it?

“I got to do The Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Mozambique, Mauritius and countless road trips with the family across SA so yes I reckon I’d stuck to it.”

When asked what he gained from 2016, he had some thoughtful words.

“I learnt that we live in an abundant world and that whatever you asked for will be given (so be careful about what you ask for).”

Yep, it looks like 2016 was also a great year for the comedian.

“The Big 5 Comedy show selling out at ARTSCAPE was awesome. Because of that base, we are doing a SA tour with the show during 2017. I got to direct my first web series.”

“And I got to help shape the shows of two brilliant up-and-coming Cape Town comics, Dalin Oliver and Carl Webber, as the director of their solo shows.”
