Forget costly shampoos - or a squeeze of lemon juice. Eva Herzigova says the secret to maintaining just-from-the-salon blonde hair is a bottle of vodka.

The 40-year-old Czech supermodel told Marie Claire magazine in France that she rinses her locks in vodka daily to lighten her blonde hair.

She’s not alone. Housewives’ remedies about the spirit’s beauty benefits are legion. It is also said to cure dandruff when massaged in with a few sprigs of rosemary. Others recommend applying organic honey, onion juice and vodka to the scalp to stem hair loss.

Vodka can also be used as a mouthwash to freshen breath, and is said to help dry out cold sores. It has even been used as a cure for smelly feet. Simply rub each foot with a shot glass worth of the liquid to guarantee sweet-smelling socks.
