“I don't like plain nails. I get sad” says Zooey Deschanel who’s best known for her quirky character Jessie in the American sitcom television series ‘New Girl’.
Most women share the same sentiment. One of my favorite girl time activities is spending a Saturday afternoon with my girlfriends catching up on what’s going on in our lives over a bottle of bubbly and food...inevitably I would be asked to pull out my impressive box of nail polish. The rest of the afternoon will be spent painting each others nails and experimenting with different looks and colours.
I am constantly on the look-out for new trends in the art nail scene. From New York to Paris, I manicurists are adding quirky and fun details to nails, breathing a whole new life to painting nails as we know it.
Eye catching brights, shimmering metallics and your basic white nail polish are popular options for the summer.
Aline Venter, the general Manager for training and development at the Sorbet Group says that the brighter your nail polish the better.
“Orange, pink, yellow and green bordering on neon are the colours to look out for. Also, chrome and metallics are massive at the moment,” she says.
Sorbet has recently launched three new nail polish collections, Sorbet Pro Gel, Sorbet Glam Effect and Sorbet Long Wear – offering a long-lasting gel effect, razzle-dazzle metallic colours and a longer-wear regular polish, respectively.
These collections contain bright colors like Hot Pink, Bright Side and A Day at the Beach as well as glam metallics such as Dazzle me Baby and I Gold You So.
I recently visited into Sorbet Nail Bar where nail artist, Tania James recommended that I try their Hot Pink colour.
“During summer, ladies love and often request bright colors. Different shades of blue are quite popular at the moment as well”,”says James.
“Singer Rihanna is one of the biggest style influencers when it comes to nail art trends. And sisters, Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, from the hit reality tv series Keeping Up with the Kardashians are well known for their trendy nails, but Rihanna remains at the forefront” says James.
