Big nose + flat feet = beauty

London - She is regarded as one of the most beautiful women of all time.

To herself, however, Audrey Hepburn was merely a “good mixture of defects”: skinny, with a big nose and big feet.

Her son has revealed that the actress didn’t see herself as attractive, and couldn’t understand why others did.

But as far as Luca Dotti was concerned his mother was “always herself – perfect”.

Dotti, 43, said: “She thought she had a big nose and big feet, and she was too skinny and not enough breast.

“She would look in the mirror and say, ‘I don’t understand why people see me as beautiful’.”

Hepburn, who is perhaps most famous for playing Holly Golightly in 1961’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s, became a fashion icon with her androgynous style.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, which has in the past voted Miss Hepburn as the best dressed woman of all time, Mr Dotti said scarves were his mother’s vice but it “wasn’t like Imelda Marcos and shoes”.

He said: “She had, like every woman, maybe 30 or 40. It was a good way to be in disguise, big sunglasses and a scarf. Occasionally she was able to do her shopping without having all the crowds.”

Miss Hepburn died 20 years ago at the age of 63, from cancer. She is one of only a handful of people to have won Academy, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Awards.

Mr Dotti said ageing didn’t scare his mother and she was “always a bit surprised by the efforts women made to look young”.

He said: “She was actually very happy about growing older because it meant more time for herself, more time for her family, and separation from the frenzy of youth and beauty that is Hollywood.” - Daily Mail
