Cape Town - Is getting inked the new way of keeping memories of a loved one alive?

Pictures, videos, a tribute message or even dedicating a song to a late loved no longer cut it.

People now have different ways of showing their respect - and tattoo is one of them.

I have been keeping tabs on entertainment news, and more and more celebrities are getting symbolic tattoos to show their appreciation of someone they care about. So is truly a generous gesture or a fast moving ‘fashion trend’?

Here are some celebrity examples:

Kylie Jenner, 18, has a tattoo on her bicep named “Mary Jo” to honour both her grandparents. E!Online reports that Kylie said she was close to her grandfather but wanted to honour both grandparents.

Jennifer Aniston had her dog's name “Norman” inked inside her right foot. According to the Daily Mail Aniston said “it’s just my way to pay homage to him... forever”

Model Gisele Bundchen is believed to have a tattoo that looks like a shooting star on the inside of her wrist. She explained, “When I first moved to New York there were no stars in the sky, so to remind me of her (grandmother) I drew one on my wrist and kept it there for a month, and then had someone draw it in.”

Two of Kanye West’s tattoos are inked on his wrists. According to the Daily Mail, one is dedicated to his late mother Donda West, and the other to his daughter North.

I can say celebrities are doing a good job of flaunting their inks and still remaining sincere.
