London - She’s an award-winning Brit who appeared in Crash and ER, and is the flawless face of Olay Total Effects.

But Thandie Newton has another reason to look radiant: recently she revealed she is expecting her third child. Here, she reveals how she stays looking so good.

THE DIET THAT WORKS

You need a good, healthy diet – it’s about finding out what your body needs. Sugar is a disaster for skin, as is white flour.

I’m a fan of naturopath Elizabeth Peyton Jones and I swear by her book Eat Yourself Young. This changed my life! The book features a two-week detox, a chapter on the top five age-busting foods and recipes for meals that have a youthful effect on the body, including nut bars and summer pudding.

Before I was pregnant, I drank fresh beetroot juice every day, which is anti-inflammatory. I couldn’t live without my juicer.

BE PICTURE PERFECT

Tell a story with your eyes when you face the camera – it makes all the difference. My best tip for making skin look good in photographs is to go easy on the make-up. You don’t want it to look heavy and mask-like.

Allow the skin’s natural radiance to show. My solution is to apply a little concealer under my eyes and to disguise any tiny broken veins at the sides of my nose.

I like Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage which comes in an orange tone that works particularly well to disguise grey shadows, which I suffer from.

KEEP STRESS AT BAY

We can put stuff on our faces, but it’s about working on your skin from every angle. Exercise is key. Until you are 30 you don’t need to do any exercise, after that it’s a different story.

It’s all about finding the right thing. For me, it’s yoga. It leaves me full of joy and optimism. Yoga stretches out your body and releases lactic acid. I do it four times a week and my skin feels fantastic afterwards. When I’m doing a film I do it every day – I keep a yoga mat in my trailer. Sometimes I do it in front of the TV. The stretching makes me feel so good. It gets my heart going and helps me breathe deeply. For me, exercise isn’t a punishing routine in the gym.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP!

Sleep is really important. I need good pillows and a really comfortable bed that I can cocoon myself in.

When you lie in bed let yourself rest – surrender to your most innocent state. To deny yourself sleep is to deny yourself life. You need sleep in order to regenerate everything.

If you have things on your mind when you get into bed, write them down before you go to sleep.

Read a book (I don’t have a Kindle) to help get whatever is worrying you out of your head.

BUDGET BEAUTY TIP

I’ve been through all the different phases of expensive creams in my life but there were times in my career when I couldn’t afford expensive products.

One of the best tips I have is to use olive oil as a body moisturiser. I also use it on the ends of my hair. If I’m making a salad and there’s some leftover olive oil on my hands, I’ll rub it on the ends of my hair the way I would a serum.

Multi-tasking products are good if times are lean. We don’t need as many products as we think we do. The Olay CC cream is a make-up, sunblock and moisturiser in one product, so you only have to buy one thing.

I have more melanin in my skin and I find this reduces its effects and evens out any pigmentation. You are left with a smooth, even skin tone. – Daily Mail
