It is the kind of suggestion that would often send actresses of a certain age into a fluster.

But, in a revealing interview, screen siren Michelle Pfeiffer has confessed to being a fan of plastic surgery, admitting she would not say no to “a little” surgical help.

The 53-year-old, considered one of the beautiful actresses of her generation, said: “I’m all for a little something here and there. It doesn’t matter to me if people have plastic surgery or they don’t, or if they do Botox”.

However, the still-striking blonde does not appear to be keen on stars who alter their appearance beyond recognition.

The mother of two - who has provoked questions in the past about whether she has had Botox and a nose job - told Elle magazine: “When people don’t look like themselves anymore, that’s when you kind of go, ‘Oooh,’ and it’s kind of sad. It’s uncomfortable for us, but if they’re happy with what they see in the mirror, does it matter?”

The Age of Innocence actress, who has been married to 55-year-old television mogul David E. Kelly for 17 years, has previously admitted that she’s considered a facelift.

“When I’m rested, I look pretty darn OK,” she has said. “I can hold off on that facelift for another few years. (But) when I’m feeling weary, then I think, maybe I better make that appointment.”

In 2007, the actress appeared in the fantasy film Stardust playing an ageing witch who will stop at nothing to stay youthful.

Miss Pfeiffer has never admitted undergoing surgery herself, but some surgical experts have suggested she may have had a rhinoplasty operation early in her career, making her nose appear thinner and more pinched.

On growing old gracefully, the actress, who won a Golden Globe in 1990 for The Fabulous Baker Boys, admitted she has decided to dress age-appropriately, saying: “I can’t wear a skirt that’s too short anymore. It’s not that my legs are bad, it just looks silly.”

She is currently filming Dark Shadows, alongside Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. - Daily Mail
