Cape Town - The Mother City shed its winter drabs and came out in all its glamorous glory on Wednesday night when Mario’s Hair Company held the exclusive launch of the Kardashian Beauty range.

Located in a little hidden section of Sea Point Main Road, Mario’s is an institution in these parts when it comes to hair and beauty, so it was only fitting that they teamed up with Glam It to bring the range to South Africa.

Head hairdresser Mario, a bundle of energetic enthusiasm, and his two partners showed journos and bloggers the tricks of the trade when demonstrating how the three sisters - Kim, Kourtney and Khloe - get and maintain their luscious manes. We were shown the steps involved in getting healthy, luxurious hair by using the Kardashian products, from the Ceramic Hairstyling Irons, to the pure Glitz Hair Spray.

The one thing that Mario repeated is that all their products are infused with black seed oil - apparently it’s the new IT product when it comes to haircare. Black seed oil comes from black seeds ( nigella sativa ).

Even the hot irons are coated with this elixir to keep the moisture in your hair and nourish it from within.

“Kardashian Beauty Black Seed Dry Oil is a nutrient rich treatment and styling aid that rejuvenates and nourishes hair so it appears strong, thick, smooth and gloriously shiny. This ultra light formula is easily absorbed, instantly nourishing and smoothing to the hair with no residue left behind. Experience the luxury of pure Black Seed Oil for the ultimate glamorous finish,” says the review on Ultra Beauty, one of the US stockist of the Kardashian Beauty range.

After reading up on some online reviews, it seems that the three sisters are on to something with their key ingredient - and no I don’t think it’s about marketing.

Apparently the oil has been in use since ancient times: black seed oil was used in Ancient Egyptian and Middle East civilisations for its amazing medicinal qualities. This oil was found in the tomb of Tutankhamun , the famous boy Pharaoh.

If there’s one haircare product you’re going to splurge on, this could be it. Gentle on the hair without weighing it down, the range is worth a test run. Because of the brand and quality ingredients, it’s not going to come cheap - products range from R450 to R3 000. You have been warned!
