London - Ever feel like you spend half your life wearing a full face of make-up?

The truth is, it could be rather more, according to a study.

On average, women wear cosmetics for nearly 13 hours a day, from 8am to 8.47pm, it found.

However, the typical morning routine takes only 11 minutes.

Many would rather be rude than reveal their bare faces, the study found, with nearly one in five saying they would refuse to open the front door while totally bare-faced.

And 58 percent said they just leave make-up on all evening if they know guests might pop in.

Whether it’s vanity or just exhaustion, 38 percent said they frequently go to bed with their make-up intact.

It seems it’s a confidence thing – more than half of the 2,000 women polled said they felt much less confident with no make-up at all. One in ten said that the more they had on, the better they felt.

Foundation, concealer, mascara and eye shadow were the most popular cosmetics.

Robert Slade, of Beurer UK, a health firm which commissioned the study, said: ‘It’s clear many women do depend on cosmetics to make themselves look and feel better. But whilst it can give an instant boost, it is also imperative that make-up lovers care for their skin.’ - Daily Mail
