Pamper those hangover blues away

Headache. Fatigue. Thirst. Nausea. Sensitivity to light and sound.

These are not the symptoms of a severe medical condition.

If you are familiar with these symptoms, you’re probably just as familiar with what a really bad hangover feels like after an over indulgence of alcohol.

Waking up with a throbbing headache and a spinning room, all you can think about is what the best and quickest way would be to “cure” those unpleasant feelings.

Whether you’re a greasy breakfast kind of person or you prefer the “hair of the dog” method (drinking the alcohol consumed the night before), a bit of rest and TLC is always much needed and most welcome.

I was delighted when I came across the “Hangover package” offered by Cape Town based inner-city beauty hub called the Cape Town Beauty Bar(CTBB). The package comprises of a Bloody or Virgin Mary cocktail on arrival, Radien Collagen Booster Masque, cucumber eye cooler, a cooling Mint and Lavender Head Massage, blow-dry, rejuvenating foot soak scrub and neck and shoulders massage.

Admittedly I wasn’t as badly hungover as described above but a mild headache and fatigue was enough to get me to the salon but I simply had to give it a try.

The CTBB is allocated on the corner of Buitengracht and Wale Street. If you concerned about finding parking in the area, don't. Owner Dean Meldau, has reserved parking space right in front of the salon.

On arrival I was warmly welcomed by friendly upbeat staff. I was introduced to Clerissa Adonis and Belinda Mbali who looked after me for the day. Adonis talked me through what the package entailed and we quickly made some adjustments since I was not going to have the blow-dry at the end. I wear my naturally curly and prefer not to blow-dry my hair. In place of the blow-dry Adonis, who’s a makeup artist as well, suggested I have a basic makeup look done instead.

Before she whisked me off to the basin where my head massage and facial were to be done, Meldau offered me the option of a virgin or Bloody Mary. My appointment was at 10am and I certainly wasn’t feeling bad enough to have ask for a Bloody Mary!

At the hair basin I eased into a very comfortable reclining chair where Adonis first started on my facial which included the Radien Collagen Booster Masque. While the masque and the cool cucumbers worked their magic I was treated to the mint and lavender head massage. The tingly feel of the mint on my scalp and it’s refreshing smell was a great pick-me-upper.

Back at my seat my a chilled Virgin Mary, which is rich in vitamin C, was ready for me. While sipping on my mocktail, Adonis tied my hair up into a neat bun. At this point Mbali massage away the tension in my neck and shoulders followed by a foot soak, scrub and pedicure.

By the time I left the CTBB I felt refreshed, my makeup in place and ready to face the rest of the day.
