Durban - Getting a closer glimpse of catwalk hair and make-up enables you to see a trend magnified, writes Omeshnie Naidoo, who, with photographer Jacques Naude, went behind the scenes at David Tlale’s Virginia Airport fashion show – not for the clothing this time, but for the dynamic looks replicated on 60 models by Aldytha da Silva and her team from Make-up Your Mind at The House in Windermere.
Cosmetic brand Kryolan South Africa joined forces with the local make-up guru to open the first of its kind standalone Kryolan store in KwaZulu-Natal, launched on the same day.
The entire range of products, which have a worldwide following, are now available – along with advice from professional make-up artists.
The main look for the show was a powder-blue painted forehead, blending into a soft coral on the cheeks.
The mouth was mattified using a deep wine lip stain and powdered with purple shadow to intensify it.
Feather lashes were used to finish the look.
The look was later transformed into a red glitter showstopper.
Da Silva says the catwalk look could be toned down for a daring, everyday street look.
“Simply wash powder-blue over the entire eyelid area. Keep the brows undefined. Use soft peach/coral/pink blusher tones and blend high up on the apple of the cheek, and join up to the eye area.
“Use a smudge of lipstick or lipstain to create a matte effect on the mouth.”
She adds:“Keep all definition on the inner rim of the eye using a black kohl pencil and apply liberal lashings of mascara.”
If there’s one mega-trend for the face this season, it’s bold lashes; have fun with them over the festive season.
“This summer we will be seeing very bright lip, eye and cheek colours,” says Da Silva, adding: “Don’t be shy to add flushes of colour and be daring with pinks, oranges and even tones of purples and blues on the mouth.”
