London - Sorry to disappoint you chaps, but if one of the things you love most about your new girlfriend is her flawless skin, then you might be in for a surprise.

Because if you’ve been dating her for less than a month, chances are you’ve never actually seen her without make-up.

Eighty percent of women wait at least that long before letting their new man see them make-up free, a survey found.

Almost one in five wait two months, 16 percent wait up to six months and a dedicated 8 percent keep it up for a whole year. Three percent say they never let their man see them without make-up.

The survey, of 564 women, found more than a third resort to waking up early and sneaking to the bathroom to apply make-up, while six in ten don’t remove it before they go to bed.

Asked why they went to such lengths, 58 percent said they looked better with make-up, while 28 percent said it gave them confidence.

Twelve percent said they feared their chap wouldn’t fancy them without it, and two percent said going make-up free could spell the end of their relationship.

But they’re not just trying to keep their other half happy. Only 27 percent of those surveyed said they would go to work without make-up, and almost a third insist on wearing it to the gym.

A quarter wouldn’t even go to their local shop without putting a bit of make-up on.

Semi-permanent make-up expert Debra Robson, who commissioned the poll, said: “I’m not surprised so few women dare to go bare when they have met a new man. Make-up makes you feel sexier and more confident.” - Daily Mail
